Yoga and Fitness classes at Pure Student Living

From October 2013 residents at Pure can sign up to take part in some great new in-house fitness classes which including circuit fitness/aerobics, yoga and street dance. Classes will take place in the morning and evenings to suit all schedules and they’re all in-house (So no excuses!)

Best of all unlike gyms there are no contracts, no joining fees and no membership fees to pay!

The benefits of regular exercise and physical activity can’t be ignored but in case you’re not quite convinced and need some reminding here are just a few reasons why you should think about starting your own fitness routine…

Circuit Fitness

‘Circuit Training’ is a high octane, boredom busting workout that is easy to follow and designed to blast fat fast and tone up your body.

Under direction from your instructor, you perform one exercise for thirty seconds to five minutes before moving on to the next exercise. It's a bit like a game of musical chairs where everyone works out at a station (that is; a place where an exercise is done), until the instructor shouts out for everyone to move on to the next free station.

Studies have shown that circuit training can help people to achieve their weight loss goals and to maintain them for longer than other forms of exercise or diet in fact in one sixty minute session alone, it’s possible to burn approximately 500-600 kcals (depending on body weight). This number can increase significantly when you perform aerobic and resistance intervals together.

Some circuit classes may switch between high intensity aerobic activities (i.e. running on the spot or stationary cycling) and resistance training exercises (i.e. using weight machines) or simply focus on one of the two.

‘Yoga’ is an ancient Indian philosophy, which can help you to control your body and mind. Yoga can also help you to improve your posture, increase your flexibility, tone your body, regulate your weight, relieve stress and alleviate depression.

Yoga can be practiced by people of all ages and whilst it’s more popular in western culture with women, it’s becoming increasingly popular with men. The England cricket team currently incorporate yoga into their individual training programmes and several footballers, most notably Ryan Giggs, have extolled the virtues of a regular yoga practice.

Although there are many different types of yoga styles, from Dynamic to Bikram which all have the same aim.

Note from the teacher - The class caters to all levels. Don’t think that you have to be flexible to take a yoga class that’s a myth. What is true however; is that yoga will help to make body and your mind more flexible.

Dance Fitness

Dancing is one of the most enjoyable ways to get some exercise and it’s the UK’s fastest growing art form with more than 4.8 million people regularly attending community dance groups each year in England alone.

Regular dancing is great for losing weight, maintaining strong bones, improving posture and muscle strength, increasing balance and co-ordination and beating stress.

One of the best things about dancing is that whilst you’re having fun moving to the beat and meeting new people, you’re also getting all the health benefits of a good workout.

The dance moves for the ‘Dance Fitness’ classes are designed to be easy to pick up so no prior dance experience is necessary. Yes believe us – you don’t have to be Shakira to take these classes! The routine is learnt over a period of 4 – 5 weeks giving you a chance to repeat moves until you master them. By the end of the course you may just be able to star in your very own music video, giving the likes of Beyonce and Lady Gaga a run for their money
