Visit the Poetry Library at the Southbank Centre
The Saison Poetry Library is one of the lesser-known facilities in the Southbank Centre's enormous 21-acre complex.
Funded by the Arts Council England, it is said to have the most comprehensive collection of poetry published in Britain since 1912. It is also major library for contemporary poetry, and its mission is to stock every poetry title published in the UK, as well as a number of translated texts.
Once a month the senior librarians get together and discuss new submissions for publication. They reportedly get back to everyone who submits a piece of poetry – so if you are an aspiring poet, or an English or Creative Writing student, why not give it a go?
A Great Place to Study and Unwind
If you are looking for a nice quiet spot in which to study for a few hours, this could be the perfect place. You will need to sign up for a membership, which is free, by showing them some form of valid and current ID. Once you have done that you will be free to roam around, browse and borrow.
One important thing to bear in mind is that it is open from Tuesday to Sunday, 11am to 8pm, and is closed on Mondays.
