Autumn is always a great time for music events in London, and this year there are a number of exciting gigs taking place in the month of November alone. Whether you like R&B or rock and roll, we can suggest a few unmissable shows.
Sam Smith – Thursday 6th November and Friday 7th November at Hammersmith Apollo (£27.50)
When London native Sam Smith released his debut solo album earlier this year, it was a huge success not only across the UK, but worldwide. Attendees will enjoy his four hit singles "Lay Me Down", "Money on My Mind", "Stay with Me" and "I'm Not the Only One", as well as the other tracks from In the Lonely Hour.
The Courteeners – Friday 7th November at the O2 Academy Brixton (£22.50)
One of the most exciting bands around at the moment, the Courteeners have just released their critically acclaimed new album, Concrete Love. Brixton Academy is the perfect venue for their indie sound, and with four albums' worth of well-known songs such as "Not Nineteen Forever" and "You Overdid It Doll", these Mancunian rockers are sure to keep the crowd more than entertained.
The National – Wednesday 26th November at the O2 (from £29)
Although their first album was released in 2001, it is only fairly recently that the National have gained the recognition they deserve. Their sixth album, Trouble Will Find Me, received almost unanimous praise from critics and placed higher on the charts than any of their previous releases.
Morrissey – Saturday 29th November at the O2 (from £60)
Legendary former Smiths frontman Morrissey has always been renowned for his ability to put on a brilliant show. It is now 30 years since the Smiths released their self-titled debut album, and he has long been a successful artist in his own right. There is a strong chance you will be treated to a Smiths song or two, but his own back catalogue is certainly varied enough to provide you with £60 worth of entertainment.
Warpaint – Saturday 29th November at Hammersmith Apollo (£23.50)
Since their rise to prominence in 2010, the fan base of Los Angeles-based Warpaint has steadily grown. The all-girl quartet has been described by some as a mix between Joni Mitchell and the Cocteau Twins, and their psychedelic sound has become a signature. Their debut album, The Fool, proved extremely popular upon its release, and the follow-up, Warpaint, has also been well-received.
