Film4 Summer Screen at Somerset House

This August, Film4 returns for the tenth year in a row to turn the courtyard of London's much-loved Somerset House into an attractive outdoor cinema. Summer Screen offers you the chance to watch 17 films over the course of two weeks.

This is a must if you're a film or media student, but even if you're not it's an opportunity for a unique night out - especially if you're new to the city.

To kick things off on 7th August, the courtyard will host the UK premiere of Two Days, One Night, a new French film by the Dardenne brothers. It will be one of three non-English Language films you can enjoy over the fortnight, along with Francois Truffaut's The 400 Blows (also French) and Paul Sorrentino's The Great Beauty (Italian).

Other screenings include:

  • Friday 8th: Rosemary's Baby (Roman Polanski, 1968)
  • Saturday 9th: A Fistful of Dollars (Sergio Leone, 1964) followed by Mad Max 2 (George Miller, 1981)
  • Tuesday 12th: Annie Hall (Woody Allen, 1977)
  • Sunday 17th: The Royal Tenenbaums (Wes Anderson, 2001)
  • Tuesday 19th: E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (Steven Spielberg, 1982)

Tickets for single screenings are £16, double bills are £20 and premieres are £24.

About Somerset House

Built in 1776 overlooking the River Thames, Somerset House is a Grade I listed building found just off the Strand in central London.

Its east wing, which was renovated in 2010, houses King's College London's School of Law, one of the most highly rated in the world, not to mention one of England's oldest.

The building has played a prominent role in London life throughout its long history; it's been used for various government purposes in the past, such as the General Registrar Office and the Inland Revenue, and was badly damaged during the Second World War.

The building is just a 15-minute walk from our Bankside accommodation.
